GM Alternator Adapter Brackets: Fit Big Power Where It Wasn't
Sometimes the win isn't a second alternator — it's putting a large-case, high-output GM alternator where the factory never intended one. Mechman's adapter brackets make it bolt up.
Two problems these brackets solve
Adapter brackets aren't about adding a second alternator — they're about fitting more capable charging where the mounting otherwise wouldn't allow it. Mechman offers two: an SD7-to-Vortec adapter, and a small-case-to-large-case adapter for the 2.2L SOHC GM engine.
SD7 A/C compressor → GM Vortec alternator
The SD7 compressor location is common on aftermarket front-runner kits. This adapter lets you install a GM alternator with the Vortec-style mount in place of an SD7 A/C compressor — a clean way to add real electrical power. It's available as a bare bracket, or as a combo that includes a 370-amp Elite Series alternator in cast or billet finishes.
1994–2003 2.2L SOHC: small-case to large-case
Have an S10, Cavalier, or another model that used the GM 2.2L SOHC engine? This laser-cut bracket converts a small-case alternator application into a large-case one — opening the door to a much higher-output alternator than the small case allows.

What does the SD7 adapter bracket do?
It lets you mount a GM alternator with the Vortec-style mount in the location of an SD7 A/C compressor — a setup commonly found on aftermarket front-runner kits — so you can add meaningful electrical power where a compressor used to sit.
Do I need the bracket only or the combo?
Choose the bare bracket if you already have a Vortec-mount alternator. Choose a combo if you'd like it complete — the combos include a 370-amp Elite Series alternator in cast or billet.
What is the 2.2L SOHC adapter for?
It converts a small-case alternator application on the GM 2.2L SOHC engine (S10, Cavalier, and similar) into a large-case application, so you can run a much higher-output alternator.
Will a large-case alternator make more power?
Yes — large-case alternators support far higher output than the small case they replace, which is exactly what the 2.2L SOHC adapter enables.
Where is it made and is it warrantied?
Every Mechman alternator is built in Knoxville, Tennessee. Optional 1-year, 2-year, and lifetime internal-parts (brushes, bearings, rectifier, regulator) warranty terms are available at checkout.
