Mechman Advantage
What is the MECHMAN ADVANTAGE?
Here at Mechman Alternators we build the best alternators for your needs. We believe that BIGGER is BETTER in everything we build from our compact Hairpin Stator units to our hybrid large-case conversions, to our bolt-in Extreme Service, all the way to our 400+ amp competition alternators. We build alternators for car audio, off-road, racing, show and for emergency and military vehicles. Do you need more output from your alternator? We specialize in building alternators to fit your charging system needs.
We use heavy-duty rectifiers and regulators, many with 2x or 3x the capacity of your factory unit and heavy-duty regulators that can withstand the punishment of your high amperage amplifiers, lights, winches, starters and other accessories. Precision balanced rotors allow for tighter tolerances for better output and more reliable performance. Premium, OEM quality NTN bearings allow your unit to work harder, longer without downtime due to bearing failure.
We build bolt-in large case conversion kits for many applications that are held back by the small, weak factory alternators. These kits come with the necessary brackets and harness to be a true plug-and-play installation. Increased output at all engine speeds is possible with our large-case conversion.
The BIGGER case is BETTER, we can fit a larger rotor and stator allowing huge output gains while still improving low speed output. The BIGGER case allows for BETTER cooling, a cool alternator is going to put out more power for longer duration. The large case allows us to fit a rectifier with a BIGGER heat sink for BETTER performance.
For those of you already running a large case alternator we build them special for you too! We use the best we can find for our alternators, oversized solid copper rectifiers, huge heat sinks, precision balanced rotors, premium bearings, and high output stators. We apply our BIGGER is BETTER philosophy to everything we build.
For many applications we offer our AVBM Adjustable Voltage Boost Module. This allows the charging voltage to be adjusted for optimum performance. This will improve the performance of your 12v system and allow you to run 14v or even 16v batteries for the ultimate in power. We carry a full line of XS Power Batteries and Shok Industries wire to complete your electrical system.
If you don't see your application listed on our site CALL or EMAIL and we can build one for your application. We are always developing new applicaions and will be happy to discuss what MECHMAN can do for you. 888-MECHMAN (632-4626), 865-522-6166 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. so when you using a higher volt alternator does your sound system get louder? Would i be able to hear a difference? I think I really need a higher volt alt because my battery gauge is dropping from 14.4 to 10.3. with my sound system on. When do you know its time for a bigger alternator?
your amps are rated at 12 -14 volts and there will be a significant drop in outgoing power to your speakers if the voltage drops the amp will only put out rms at the rated power depending on amp 12-14.4 so yes first note will be louder than the rest plus its hell on your batteries
so i want a top of the line higher volt alternator .
but i got a 1995 sc 400 lexus. do you make 270 amp or better alternaors for my car...? if so how much..????
Email eric@mechman.com and we will get a quote to you for your specific application.
What's the reality of the resistance on the wire from the alternator to the battery? I've seen systems overcharge 2 AGM batteries with a stock alternator, apparently just from having 1/0 wire in the system. I've been told by a couple guys I trust to keep the wire size down from the alternator to keep this from happening, and I know of a guy that will tell you how much resistance you need for a given system..... sounds a little hokey to have to do that...
^^ why would you want more resistance by using a smaller power cable? Thats stupid, if you reach the limit of that power wire it will heat up and burn. Possible fire.
Added resistance = voltage drop. And those batteries were probably optimas, they're really finicky and die if voltage is a little too high.
I know exactly what you mean, I've just seen batteries overcharge from a big Alt and big wire. They were wet cell batteries.
